Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 12, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how SlapCut ("SlapCut", the "App", "we", "us" or "our"), published by Apparence.io (a company registered in France), handles information when you use the App. We have built SlapCut to do as much as possible directly on your device — most of the time, no personal data leaves your iPhone.
1. Who we are
Data controller: Apparence.io, France. Contact: support@apparence.io.
2. What we don't collect
SlapCut does not require an account to work. We don't ask for and we don't store:
- your name, email address or phone number;
- your contacts, calendar or location;
- your videos, audio recordings, transcripts or any other content you create with the App.
3. On-device processing
Everything that powers SlapCut's core features happens locally on your iPhone:
- video and audio capture from the camera and microphone;
- silence detection from real-time audio levels;
- thumbs-down gesture recognition from the camera feed;
- on-device speech recognition used to help you pick which segments to keep;
- video editing, encoding and export.
Your videos never leave your device through SlapCut. They only reach another app or service if you actively share or export them yourself. See section 4 below for an explicit disclosure of how SlapCut handles face data.
4. Face data
SlapCut does not collect, process, store, retain, share or transmit any face data.
The App does not use Apple's VNDetectFaceRectanglesRequest,
VNDetectFacesRequest, VNFaceObservation,
ARFaceTrackingConfiguration, Face ID, or any equivalent third-party
face-detection or face-recognition technology. The thumbs-down gesture feature uses
Apple's on-device VNDetectHumanHandPoseRequest (Hand Pose), which returns
hand-joint coordinates only — never facial features, facial geometry, facial
expressions, or any other facial biometric.
For complete clarity, this section addresses each of the disclosures required by Apple App Store Review Guideline 5.1.1(i):
- Face data is not retained. We do not store face data on the device, in memory beyond the immediate camera preview, on our servers, in any database, in any log file, or in any backup.
- Reasons for storing face data: none. Not applicable — we do not collect face data, so there is no purpose for which it would be stored.
- Length of time face data is stored: zero. No face data is ever written to disk, transmitted off the device, or kept in memory beyond the lifetime of a single live camera frame, which is discarded as soon as the next frame arrives. Face data is not stored for any length of time, because it is never collected in the first place.
- Third parties we share face data with: none. We do not share face data with Apple, Sentry, Mixpanel, our hosting provider, any analytics provider, any advertising network, or any other third party.
- Reasons for sharing face data with third parties: none. Not applicable — we do not share face data with anyone because we do not collect it.
- Third-party face-data practices: not applicable. Because no face data is collected or shared, there are no third-party storage or processing practices for face data to disclose.
All camera processing in SlapCut happens in real time, in memory, on your iPhone. Raw camera frames and hand-joint coordinates never leave your device.
5. Camera and microphone permissions
SlapCut requests camera, microphone, photo library and speech-recognition permissions on your iPhone. These permissions are required to record and edit videos. We use them only for the features described in the App. You can revoke any of them at any time from Settings → SlapCut on iOS.
6. Crash reporting (Sentry)
To detect and fix crashes, SlapCut sends anonymized crash diagnostics to Sentry (Functional Software, Inc., USA), our crash-reporting provider. A typical crash report contains the device model, iOS version, App version, a stack trace and a random session identifier. It does not contain your videos, audio, transcripts or any personal information you entered. Sentry acts as our processor and is bound by an EU Standard Contractual Clauses agreement for international transfers.
7. Product analytics (Mixpanel)
To understand how SlapCut is used and prioritize improvements, we use (or plan to use) Mixpanel (Mixpanel, Inc., USA) for anonymous product analytics. Mixpanel receives event signals such as which screens you open, which features you use, session length and App/device metadata.
Analytics data is tied to a random anonymous device identifier — not to your name, email, Apple ID or IP address (we configure Mixpanel not to retain IP addresses). We never send your videos, audio or transcripts to Mixpanel. You can reset your anonymous identifier at any time from the App's Settings, which detaches all future events from any prior history.
8. App Store data
Apple provides us with aggregate, non-identifiable App Store statistics (downloads, country, crash counts, etc.) through App Store Connect. We can't tie this data to individual users. Your interactions with the App Store itself are governed by Apple's privacy policy.
9. Children
SlapCut is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
10. Your rights
Under the GDPR and similar laws, you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, and to data portability. Because SlapCut doesn't store your videos or content on our servers and uses anonymous analytics, most of these rights are trivially satisfied — there is little to no personal data tied to you on our side.
To exercise any right, or to ask us to reset or erase your anonymous analytics identifier, email support@apparence.io. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (in France, the CNIL).
11. Third parties
- Sentry (Functional Software, Inc., USA) — crash reporting.
- Mixpanel (Mixpanel, Inc., USA) — anonymous product analytics.
- Apple (Apple Inc., USA) — App Store distribution and aggregate analytics.
We do not sell or rent any data to third parties. No face data is shared with any third party listed above, as SlapCut does not collect face data — see section 4.
12. International transfers
Sentry and Mixpanel are based in the United States. When data is transferred outside the European Economic Area, we rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses and additional safeguards to protect your information.
13. Data retention
Crash reports are retained by Sentry for up to 90 days. Anonymous analytics events are retained by Mixpanel according to our configured retention window (up to 5 years), then deleted. Since these records are not tied to a personal identifier, they cannot be tied back to you.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date above will reflect the most recent revision. Material changes will be communicated through the App or on this page.
